Diagnostic Services
The Radiology Department at JCH provides 24 hour coverage. Routine X-Rays are provided by registered technologists employed by the hospital. Additional services have been added to help physicians make accurate diagnosis and assist in treatment which has benefit to the patient not only in the quality of care but also in convenience.
Johnson County Hospit al provides the following diagnostic exams:
Diagnostic Imaging
General Radiology (X-Ray)
A wide variety of x-ray exams are available. All exams are performed by compassionate registered technologists who are educated in the human body, radiation protection and obtaining images of different areas of the body. Both routine and emergency services are available.
Computed Tomography (CT)
The CT machine uses x-rays and a computer to produce diagnostic images of the head and body. Johnson County Hospital also uses the CT scanner to perform bone density evaluations to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. It is often necessary to use an injection of contrast media, or x-ray dye, as well as orally ingested Barium to better evaluate different areas of the body. This valuable service is available for both routine and emergency needs.
Positron Emission Tomography / Computed Tomography (PET / CT)
PET / CT is a technology that merges a picture of function (PET) with a picture of anatomy (CT). Fused together, they offer images of the body’s metabolism & structure. The PET part of the exam uses radioactive tracers to demonstrate the cellular function. The exams are very useful to evaluate and diagnose cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. This sophisticated service is available numerous times through-out the month.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses sound waves to make images. The sonographers provide complete abdomen and OB/GYN imaging. This service is available weekdays on a scheduled basis. Cardiac and vascular ultrasounds are also available on scheduled basis.
Mammography
Mammograms are important for early detection of breast cancer, along with self breast examinations and breast exams by a physician. The dedicated mammography unit is staffed by caring female technologists. Johnson County Hospital is FDA approved and ACR (American College Of Radiology) accredited so patients can be assured high quality mammograms. Mammograms are available on a twice a week scheduled basis.
Mobile Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine uses very small amounts of injected radioactive material to produce images. Nuclear medicine can provide images that aid in the study and function of different organs and body parts. It can help diagnose a variety of conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, gallbladder dysfunction, infection and fractures not visible on general x-ray. Nuclear medicine services are provided by Nebraska Heart Institute on a scheduled weekly basis.
Mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The MRI machine makes very detailed images by using a powerful magnet, radio waves and a computer. It is an easy way to look inside the body without using radiation. It can be especially valuable to help diagnose problems with the brain and spine as well as musculoskeletal injuries. This service is available on a weekly scheduled basis.
Teleradiology
Diagnostic images obtained at Johnson County Hospital are interpreted by Radiology Associates, PC of Lincoln. Teleradiology allows for the transmission of digital images to doctors at a remote site for timely diagnosis on a routine or emergency basis.
