Respiratory Therapy:

Sleep Studies Program
JCH has been assisting people for several years in the treatment and relief of a condition called Sleep Apnea. It is estimated that one out of four people suffer from sleep apnea, a disorder that causes people to frequently stop breathing while sleeping. Your doctor will perform a physical to see if you suffer from sleep apnea. A Pulmonologist will then be referred and Johnson County Hospital will schedule and precertify the patient for a Sleep Study. Our Sleep Study room is designed to resemble a bedroom including a bed that has a regular mattress and box spring, not the typical hospital bed. We want you to be able to relax and feel at home.

ss
Pulmonary Clinic
Dr. Ellen Miller, a pulmonologist from Lincoln, provides clinic services twice per month to keep everyone “breathing easy.” Dr. Miller consults with patients at Johnson County Hospital regarding lung diseases and conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, emphysema and cancer. Dr. Miller evaluates and diagnoses breathing problems and evaluate sleep apnea.

Smoking Cessation Program

If you want to quit smoking, we are ready to help.  We can provide guidance and education to assist you in achieving a positive outcome.  Call us for written material or just drop in for one on one encouragement.

EEG
An Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that measures and records electrical brain activity. Sensors (electrodes) are attached to your head and hooked to a computer with wires. The computer records the brain's electrical activity on the screen or on paper. Certain conditions, such as narcolepsy, can be seen by the changes in the normal pattern of the brain's electrical activity.

Holter Monitor
A Holter Monitor is a portable device, about the size of a pager, that is used to continuously monitor the electrical activity of the heart for 24 hours or more. Johnson County Hospital offers this as an outpatient service and all results are interpreted by a cardiologist.

Pulmonary Function Test
During a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), a spirometry machine is used to determine a patient's oxygen volume. This is an outpatient service that can be done here at the Hospital by our Respiratory Therapist. Personal information is entered into the machine and it calculates what is expected for the patient's age and body type. This test is generally done to determine a disability, validate the use of medication, diagnose asthma, or to determine how severe a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is, such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or asthma.

BiPAP
Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) is a new service provided by the Hospital. BiPAP is a non-invasive ventilation (breathing) apparatus designed to help people get more air into their lungs. This is especially helpful when dealing with breathing difficulties like sleep apnea.

Physical Therapy:pt
The Physical Therapy Department at Johnson County Hospital offers physical and rehabilitation therapy to acute, skilled nursing, outpatient and Home Health Care patients.  Services include; orthopedic and sports medicine, and neurological conditions.  This may involve assessment and treatment with the use of appropriate procedures such as hot pack / ice packs, massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and whirlpool.  It could also include the use of exercise, gait training, neuro re-education and balance activities and progressive functional and stabilization activities.

Cardiac Rehab:
cr
The goal of cardiac rehabilitation is to return the patient to the optimal level of functioning following either a coronary artery bypass or a heart attack (myocardial infarction). With rehabilitation you also get the benefit of a professional educating the patient concerning diet, exercise, smoking cessation, relaxation skills and medication issues. The program can run anywhere from six to eight weeks, depending upon your insurance carrier and is available with a doctor’s orders. Individualized Cardiac Rehabilitation is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. To enroll in Cardiac Rehab, call Delores Othmer at (402) 335-3361.

Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy includes providing screening, consultation, diagnosis and treatment of speech or swallowing problems that a patient may have. Speech Therapy services are offered here at Johnson County Hospital on an as-needed basis.

Swing Bed/Skilled Care
A care and treatment plan is developed and evaluated for each and every patient. This plan is made by keeping the patient's family and/or significant other's input paramount.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) incorporates meaningful and purposeful occupation to enable people with limitations or impairments to participate in everyday life. Occupational Therapists work with individuals to facilitate health and well-being through engagement or re-engagement in occupation.
